Professional maintenance product for whom?

Buying and using a professional cleaning product is not trivial and without risk. Indeed, the cleaning product that the consumer can buy in large retailers is designed for use by "laymen" and for domestic use . As a result, the active ingredients are often reduced in order to logically reduce the risk of use.
The professional cleaning product will offer formulations with stronger active ingredients to meet the need for cleaning and disinfection in communities, hospitals, industry, catering outside the home, nurseries, gyms, etc.
The objective is to comply with standards such as HACCP or disinfection standards in order to ensure the safety and hygiene of everyone in the community.
The use of this type of maintenance product will require supervision through protocols for some of them. Their use or application in poor conditions can, beyond not obtaining the expected results, put the user's health at risk.
It is therefore imperative to carefully read the technical data sheets, MSDS, hazard logo, pH of the cleaning product and any recommendations. Voussert provides you with the benefit of its expertise of over 45 years to advise you on the choice of products and the implementation of methods.

Professional and ecological maintenance product.

To address the risks of sometimes slightly active formulations, manufacturers have in recent years been moving towards products that meet the Ecolabel standard , reducing the risks for users and also the environmental footprint.
It is therefore strongly recommended to choose products today that meet recognized ecological labels such as Ecolabel, NordiK Swann or Ecocert.
In addition, under the labor code, employers are required to assess the risks incurred for the health and safety of workers for any activity likely to present a risk of exposure to dangerous chemical agents (Article R4412-5 of decree n°2008-244 of 07/03/2008).
Taking these risks into account has pushed employers to be ever more demanding regarding the products they purchase (DUERP Single Professional Risk Assessment Document).
This naturally leads communities and professionals to turn to Ecolabel and/or CLP-free and hazard logo-free maintenance products, thereby greatly reducing the responsibility of the client in the event of an accident.

Biocid regulations and disinfectant cleaning products

As of January 1, 2025, the regulations regarding the sale and use of Biocid products as part of professional maintenance products will be applied. An Individual Certificate for the activity of professional user and distribution of certain types of biocidal products intended exclusively for professionals is required.
The Certibiocide is an individual certificate which is mandatory in these cases:
- Buyer of Biocide products - User - Distributor
This concerns certain types of biocidal products exclusively reserved for professionals (excluding those exclusively used in a production or transformation process).
The Certibiocide is valid in France for 5 years, renewable.
Please note that the certibiocide is not an approval . You should know that there is no company approval in the field of activity of the provision of services including the application of biocide products. However, there are:
- A voluntary CEPA certificate
- An obligation to declare activity on the site https://certibiocide.din.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/

Risks and your choice of maintenance product, responsibilities

Many cleaning products are used today without the necessary personal protective equipment. An oven cleaner used without goggles, gloves or a mask will automatically put the employer at risk in the event that the user suffers damage as a result of using the product.
The first safety measure is therefore, as you will have understood, to move towards products with an Ecological label and/or without CLP. This will significantly reduce the risk.
In the event that you have to take a product outside this field, you will have to prioritize products from recognized brands and above all take into account the method and protective equipment recommended by the manufacturer.
The use of a professional cleaning product also requires the implementation of training and usage protocols. In areas such as kitchen hygiene, the implementation of the HACCP method is now an obligation.

Focus on UFI codes from January 1, 2020/2021

With the evolution of the classification of raw materials, the number of classified mixtures is increasing and poison control centers are overwhelmed by the number of declared trade names, particularly linked to the massive use of MDD (private label brands).
In order to improve the identification of mixtures, the new Annex VIII in connection with Article 45 establishes the creation of UFIs, unique formulation identifiers, which will facilitate the work of CAPs (Anti-Poison Centres).
What is a UFI code?
A Unique Formulation Identifier that must appear on the label of products containing a hazardous mixture. It is a 16-character alphanumeric code.
How will it be used?
Affixed to the label of the finished product and declared via SYNAPSE, it will be used by poison control centers to identify without risk of error the product involved in an incident and thus provide the correct first aid advice.
From when is the UFI mandatory?
By January 1, 2021 for professional products
By January 1, 2020 for consumer products.
