Stripping PVC, thermoplastic and linoleum floors is a multi-step process, carried out by cleaning professionals equipped with professional products and suitable cleaning equipment such as single-brush or scrubber dryers. Floor preparation and stripping: The first step is to prepare the surface by removing furniture, clearing the surfaces as much as possible and sweeping using a damp sweeping mop with impregnated gauze or a microfiber mop and a neutral cleaner, then possibly carefully vacuuming the floor. Then, you will need to use a low-speed single-brush machine or a floor scrubber for large surfaces equipped with a black /brown disc or green if the surface is fragile to thoroughly strip your PVC, lino or thermoplastic floor, removing layers of dirt, old layers of wax and accumulated residue. Floor rinsing and chemical neutralization: Once stripping is complete, it is essential to thoroughly rinse the floor to remove any residue from the stripping solution. This floor neutralization step ensures that the floor is perfectly neutral with a pH close to 7 before applying protection via an acrylic emulsion (wax or metallization). This phase can be done using a wet vacuum cleaner but also a scrubber-dryer as long as the size of the room allows it. This neutralization phase can be greatly reduced with the use of so-called "no-rinse" stripper which still requires rinsing but where the return to neutrality of the floor will be accelerated. In the case of this type of stripper it would be more honest to speak of a stripper with limited rinsing... The pH can be checked with pH paper strips or "litmus" paper.
Wet stripping: also called reconditioning for very dirty coatings. Application of the stripping product in the form of a stripper + water solution with a flat scrubbing mop, with an action time to be respected then passage of the single-brush machine. The application of the stripping solution can also be done with a scrubber-drier equipped with a black, brown, blue or green disc depending on the fragility of the floor. This is of course possible if the size and bulk of the surface lends itself to it. This will be a very significant time saving, particularly at the final level of collecting the stripping solution. In this specific case the scrubber-drier will work in two stages. First application and stripping without suction (brush raised) then passage for collecting and rinsing taking advantage of the suction power of the scrubber-drier. Of course, the suction or evacuation of stripping residues and drying of the surface can be done with a water vacuum cleaner, a scrubber-dryer or, as a last resort, a floor squeegee.
Dry stripping (spray) : allows the total or partial removal of floor protection by applying the principle of the spray method. The product is sprayed onto the floor and the single-brush machine is used with a suitable disc (brown color). This stripping is suitable for floors that are particularly sensitive to water and do not have too much wax build-up. For treating small areas.
In this case, it is imperative to change the product and refer to the manufacturer's technical data sheet for the floor, which sometimes recommends solvent-based formulations rather than alkaline ones, for example. Discoloration can also be linked to the age of the floor, and in this case, a lower dilution will be required to promote mechanical action.
A simple method involves applying a little clean water to different points on your surface and placing a pH paper strip or litmus paper on it. This type of strip used to check the pH of swimming pools is readily available on the market. If your pH strip indicates a pH that is still alkaline, it will be imperative to repeat the rinsing operation, otherwise the wax will not hold well in the next phase.
Probably if the quality of the product is not at stake, that your rinsing phase was not correctly carried out. In this case the residue of decanter impregnated in the soil comes out and attacks the emulsion.
Generally, the standard black stripping disc color is preferred, but a preliminary test should be carried out. Alternatives can be brown, blue, or green for very fragile floors. Conversely, for heavier stripping, Hi Pro stripping discs allow for deeper action.
