How to descale my professional dishwasher

Why descale your dishwasher?

Dishwashers are very often supplied with softened water via an upstream or central water softener . As a result , the amount of limescale in the water is reduced , but not eliminated. Indeed, the residual hardness (TH) is often between 7 and 12°, whereas it can be above 30° before softening.

As a result, limescale will accumulate under the effect of temperature on the walls , injectors, etc. of the machine , but also on the dishes.

It is therefore necessary to descale the equipment regularly in order to preserve it and maintain the dishwasher's operating quality.

My dishes are dull and white

Very often users complain about a decline in washing quality , but this is simply because the machine is not being maintained correctly.

The dishes will also become dull with repeated washing in the dishwasher, and the glasses in particular will become more opaque.

Therefore, it is also necessary to regularly descale the dishes by soaking them in a sink or directly by passing the dish baskets through the dishwasher where descaling agent has been previously poured into the wash basin.

The descaling protocol for washing machines and dishwashers

If the dishwasher is equipped with a detergent dispenser, it is essential to switch it off before filling to avoid mixing the detergent (alkaline) with the descaling agent (acidic). This would have a contradictory effect.

Once the dispenser is switched off (the indicator light should be off) , you can fill the dishwasher with water. Then manually add the liquid or powder descaler , following the indicated dosages.

Next, run your machine for a few cycles so that the entire solution circulates through the arms and components of the machine.

You can take this opportunity to also clean baskets of glassware or other kitchen utensils that are not sensitive to acid (do not put aluminum in) in order to descale them as well.

Next, drain your machine.

Reactivate the wall-mounted dispenser . Restart the machine's water filling cycle. You can then run the pre-descaled dish baskets through the machine to rinse them thoroughly.
