If the dishwasher is equipped with a detergent dispenser, it is obviously necessary to turn off this dispenser when filling it in order to avoid mixing the detergent product (alkaline) with the descaling product (acid).
This would indeed have a contradictory effect.
Once the dispenser is off (the light must be off), you can fill the dishwasher with water. Then manually add the liquid or powder descaler, respecting the dosages indicated.
Then run your machine for a few cycles so that all of the solution circulates through the arms and parts of the machine.
You can take the opportunity to pass baskets of glassware or other kitchen utensils that are not sensitive to acid (do not use aluminum) in order to descale them as well.
Then proceed to drain your machine.
Turn the wall-mounted dispenser back on.
Restart filling the machine. You can then pass the previously descaled dish baskets through to rinse them definitively.
