Why choose a dual-speed single-disc floor machine?

A two-speed floor scrubber can be used to adapt to different cleaning surfaces and types of soiling. It's a versatile choice , and as with any versatile machine, there will be compromises in each task . With 45 years of experience in the cleaning industry, Voussert will guide you through comparing and choosing the best floor scrubber . The lower speed setting is ideal for more delicate surfaces, stripping, or simple cleaning tasks , while the higher speed setting is suitable for surfaces requiring spray polishing or buffing. This optimizes cleaning efficiency and minimizes potential damage to the surface by adapting the speed to the material and the task at hand.
The choice of a single-disc floor machine is often dictated by the task(s) to be performed. It's common to choose a low-speed machine for stripping and cleaning , and a high-speed one for polishing or spray- drying, which absolutely require a higher speed to achieve the necessary shine. The problem is that if you need a low-speed machine for stripping and cleaning, and you also want to achieve a high-quality polish, this means buying two single-disc machines: a low-speed one and a high-speed one.

What work can be done with a dual-speed single-brush machine?

It allows you to perform a large number of different tasks.
We will describe them with the appropriate speed to select in order to avoid any handling errors.

The dual-speed, two single-brush machines in one

A dual-speed floor scrubber can be a solution in this case, offering a doubling of the base speed by changing the selector on the machine. The ratio between low and high speed is then 2:1, for example, 180 rpm and 360 rpm. The risk with this type of machine is that the user might forget to change the speed before starting the task and therefore choose the wrong speed. If the user remains on low speed, it will only affect the quality of the work if the task requires high speed. However, if the user remains on high speed when starting a task requiring high torque and therefore low speed, the motor can be damaged.
A classic example: cleaning a carpet with a brush while remaining on the high-speed selector. Therefore, user training is crucial for a dual-speed single-disc floor machine.

Stripping of thermoplastic or tiled floors

In this case, you will need to use the low speed setting. You will need to select a stripper for thermoplastic or PVC floors, or a stripper for hard floors . Stripping can be done with a black, brown, or blue abrasive disc (for delicate surfaces), and possibly with a nylon brush for hard floors, especially if there are large joints in the floor.

Carpet cleaning

The dual-speed single-disc machine used at low speed for carpet cleaning allows for the cleaning of carpets and textile floors using the so-called "wet" method.
In this case, the single-disc machine will need to be equipped with a carpet brush or a carpet disc or a carpet bonnet (carpet fringe disc).
The product used will be a foaming (diluted) carpet cleaning shampoo.

Marble crystallization with a two-speed single-disc machine

You will of course need to use the low speed of the single-disc machine. You will need to use either pre-made "steel wool" discs to the size of the machine, generally 406 or 432 mm, or from a roll of steel wool (grit of different abrasion to be determined), or specialized discs such as the 3M Scotch Brite crystallization disc range.
The crystallizing product is generally in powder or liquid form depending on the method of application.

Spray polishing method with a two-speed single-disc machine

Generally, the "high speed" on a single- speed floor scrubber will rarely exceed 400 rpm. This is because the difference between the machine's low and high speeds is achieved via a selector switch that doubles the low speed.
The Taski Ergodisc Flexx 43 single-brush machine , which has 3 speeds, is an exception with 120 rpm / 150 rpm and 350 rpm, but this is still less than 400 rpm.
We will therefore be talking more about high-speed polishing and standard spray.
You will then need red or white or beige polishing spray discs and a spray product which can be either a regenerating polishing spray or a cleaning polishing spray .

Frequently asked questions about the dual-speed single-disc floor machine

Do I need to use a solution reservoir on my single-disc floor machine?

Yes, if you opt for stripping and cleaning tasks. This will save you time and reduce solution consumption because you will always have control over the solution flow rate on the floor.

Do I need to change the disc carrier plate between low and high speed?

Yes and no...Yes, it is preferable because high-speed platters are generally equipped with an intermediate "shock absorber" to smooth out irregularities in the ground which, in high-speed rotation, can damage the ground with a standard rigid platter.
No, if your high-speed treated floor is perfectly flat and if, moreover, you never work on a plastic floor.

What are the best brands of dual-speed single-disc floor scrubbers?

There are many brands of dual-speed single-disc floor scrubbers, but the traditional and established brands with proven track records in the demanding field of commercial cleaning are Taski, Numatic, and Nilfisk. These three brands also benefit from French after-sales service with numerous mobile technicians, which is sometimes not the case with "exotic" brands or those simply "branded" with a particular retailer's name.
