A floor scrubber has a suction system that incorporates a dedicated motor or one shared with the brush drive. The cleaning solution is collected using a squeegee to pump it into the dirty water tank, leaving a clean and dry floor. Therefore, in addition to choosing a product with a pH suitable for the type of flooring, the priority is to use a non-foaming product. Why use a non-foaming cleaning product? Simply because your dirty water tank has a float or sensor that detects when it's full . If your product foams, it will artificially raise the level when you vacuum and unnecessarily trigger the "tank full" indicator when it isn't actually full! The type of flooring you're cleaning and the level of soiling will determine which floor scrubber cleaner to use. For delicate floors or floors treated with an emulsion, you'll need to use a neutral cleaner with a pH close to 7. On an industrial or tiled floor requiring degreasing without a strong alkaline base, a solvent-based product will be ideal . On a floor where there is a layer of limescale or tartar due to repeated washing in hard water, a treatment with a diluted descaling cleaner will restore the shine of the floor.
Cleaning discs and brushes are each suited to specific types of flooring, tasks, and spaces. A floor scrubber typically comes equipped with nylon brushes designed for cleaning hard floors such as tile, warehouse floors, shopping centers, airports, train stations, etc. In the specific case of plastic floors, PVC surfaces, or thermoplastics treated with a wax or emulsion, using a pad will be more suitable for the surface as it is less aggressive. This will prevent damage to the surface layer of wax applied to your floor. In all cases, it is the "product / brush or product / disc" combination that will need to be adapted to your floor , dirt and traffic encountered.
The size of the clean water tank determines the operating time for each cleaning solution . Of course, if you're using a corded model, this parameter alone (along with user fatigue) will determine the operating time, in addition to the solution flow rate setting. If you're using a battery-powered system, the battery life , calculated in hours, will often be determined by the battery's charge duration . Note that this duration can vary depending on the type of flooring. If the flooring is "rough," it will consume more energy at the brush or abrasive pad, thus reducing the operating time. On machines designed for large areas, such as self-propelled scrubbers with dedicated traction motors on the wheels, and even more so on ride-on scrubbers, these tanks have a large capacity. It's worth noting that a scrubber-dryer is configured with a clean water tank for the detergent solution and a separate dirty water tank, which is collected by the vacuum motor.
Some brands, like Taski, offer bare-bones configurations without batteries, brushes, or pad holders. You then need to adapt these options to the surface you'll be cleaning and the desired operating time. The battery pack and its amperage determine its availability.
Maintaining a small, compact floor scrubber is quite simple and can be done individually following the manufacturer's recommendations. For larger models of ride-on or walk-behind floor scrubbers, manufacturers are increasingly offering "Full Service" contracts that include various service visits and replacement of wear parts. Voussert offers these contracts tailored to your needs from the moment your machine is commissioned.
Contact our services. We offer solutions with several brands for on-site commissioning of your floor scrubber, including initial training. Purchasing from Voussert does not prevent you from benefiting from this type of service.
The main manufacturers are Nilfisk, Numatic, Taski, Karcher, Ghibli, Tennant, Hako...etc These manufacturers do not all have the same approach in terms of factory location. A brand like Taski, with its Ultimaxx range, manufactures in Switzerland, Numatic in the UK, Nilfisk mainly in Hungary... Some machines do indeed come from the Asian continent and are sometimes sold under different colors and names... When choosing a particular machine, it is important to consider the after-sales service and network, including the number of technicians and maintenance solutions (Full Service contract). This is even more important on a machine like a ride-on mower, which will necessarily require the intervention of a technician on site.
During our visit to the last Interclean international trade fair , we saw cleaning equipment in the hall, and more specifically floor scrubbers , with many exhibitors from Asian manufacturers of autonomous robot-type floor scrubbers. Of course, the concept of autonomous vehicles is becoming increasingly present in our world, and the technology of the floor scrubber could not ignore this revolution or evolution... What are the advantages of an autonomous, robot-type floor scrubber? Efficiency! For floor cleaning, especially in large, geometrically simple areas (gymnasiums, event halls, warehouses, etc.), this type of scrubber has a significant role to play in competing with ride-on or self-propelled models, which offer the best performance. Cleaning companies will see even greater benefits , as their services are based on an hourly rate . In this case, eliminating the labor cost is an undeniable advantage. As we see in other sectors where autonomy is key, it is the reduction in labor costs that most appeals to private and public investors with autonomous floor scrubbers.
Of course, as with any revolution, the picture isn't entirely positive . First of all, for many manufacturers like Nilfisk, for example, it's just the beginning . Asia seems to have a head start , since many of the autonomous floor scrubbers arriving on the European market come from China ... under different brands or in different colors. Therefore, to date, there is no real data on the reliability of these floor scrubbers and their limitations in terms of adaptability to the configuration of a given location . Indeed, the geometry of the premises, the presence or absence of the public, the building's floor level, etc., are all parameters that become constraints. In these specific cases, the traditional floor scrubber remains a viable option. Another issue is the cost of this type of floor scrubber, which is pushing manufacturers to implement lease-maintenance contracts rather than outright sale in order to smooth out a cost that is obviously higher.
