A scrubber-dryer has a suction system that integrates a specific motor or one that is common to the brush drive. The suction nozzle is used to pump the cleaning detergent solution into its dirty water tank, leaving the floor clean and dry. Therefore, beyond the pH of the product to be used, which will be adapted to the floor, the priority is to use a non-foaming product. Why a non-foaming cleaning product? Simply because your dirty water tank is equipped with a float or sensor that detects when it is full . If your product foams, it will "artificially" raise the level when vacuuming and will inadvertently trigger the "full tank" cut-off when it is not! The floor you're cleaning and the amount of dirt on it will determine which floor scrubber cleaner to use. On delicate or emulsion-treated floors, you'll need to use a neutral cleaner with a pH close to 7. On an industrial or tiled floor requiring degreasing without a strong alkaline base, a solvent-based product will be ideal . On a floor where there is a limescale film or scale due to repeated washing in hard water, a pass with a diluted descaling cleaner will restore the shine to the floor.
Cleaning discs and brushes are each suited to specific floor types, tasks, and spaces. A scrubber-dryer comes standard with nylon brushes designed for cleaning hard floors such as tiles, warehouse floors, shopping centers, airports, train stations, etc. In the particular case of plastic floors, PVC surfaces or thermoplastics that are treated with a wax or emulsion, the use of a disc will be more suitable for the surface because it is less aggressive. This will avoid damaging the surface layer of wax applied to your floor. In all cases, it is the "product/brush or product/disc" pair which must be adapted to your floor , dirt and traffic encountered.
The size of the clean water tank determines the working autonomy with washing product . Of course, if you are using a cable model, only this parameter (and the user's fatigue) will determine the autonomy in parallel with the adjustment of the solution flow rate. If you are on a battery configuration, in this case it is often the energy duration that will determine this autonomy calculated in hours . Be careful, this duration can vary depending on the type of coating. If it is "rough" it will consume more energy at the level of the brush or the abrasive disc (pad) and will therefore reduce this duration. On a machine dedicated to large areas such as a self-propelled machine including a specific traction motor on the wheels and even more so on a ride-on machine, these tanks are large capacity. Note that a scrubber-dryer is configured with a clean water tank for the detergent and clean water solution and a dirty water tank which will be recovered by the suction motor.
Some brands, like Taski, offer bare configurations without batteries, brushes, or a pad holder. These options must then be adapted to the surface you will be cleaning and the desired working time. The battery pack and its amperage determine its availability.
Maintaining a small compact scrubber dryer is quite simple and can be done individually within the manufacturer's recommendations. For larger models of ride-on or self-propelled scrubber dryers, manufacturers are increasingly offering "full service" contracts that include several service packages and replacement of worn parts. Voussert offers these contracts based on your needs from the moment the machine is commissioned.
Contact us for more information. We offer solutions with several brands for on-site commissioning of your scrubber dryer, including initial training. Buying from Voussert doesn't prevent you from benefiting from this type of service.
The main manufacturers are Nilfisk, Numatic, Taski, Karcher, Ghibli, Tennant, Hako...etc. Not all of these manufacturers have the same approach to factory locations. A brand like Taski with its Ultimaxx range is manufactured in Switzerland, Numatic in the United Kingdom, Nilfisk mainly in Hungary... Some machines come from the Asian continent and are sometimes sold in different colors and names... When choosing a particular machine, it is important to ask yourself the question of after-sales service and the network through the number of technicians and maintenance solutions (as opposed to Full Service). This is even more important on a machine like a ride-on mower which will necessarily require the intervention of a technician on site.
While visiting the last international Interclean exhibition , we saw cleaning equipment in the hall, and more specifically scrubber dryers , with many exhibitors from Asian manufacturers of autonomous robot-type scrubber dryers. Of course, the concept of autonomous vehicles is becoming increasingly present in our world and scrubber-dryer technology could not miss out on this revolution or evolution... What could be the interest of an autonomous robot-type scrubber-dryer? The yield! In a mission of cleaning floors and especially large surfaces with a simple geometric shape (gymnasium, function room, warehouses, etc.) this type of scrubber-dryer has its place to compete with the ride-on or self-propelled models which offer the best yields. A cleaning company will see an even greater interest because the service of a cleaning company is based on an "hourly cost" . In this case, "eliminating" the part of the salary cost is an undeniable advantage. As we see in other areas where autonomy takes precedence, it is on the notion of reducing the "salary cost" that the autonomous scrubber-dryer interests private investors or communities the most.
Of course, as with any revolution, the picture is not 100% positive . First of all, for many manufacturers like Nilfisk for example, it is the beginning of the story . Asia also seems to have a head start since many of the autonomous scrubber dryers arriving on the European market come from China ... under different brands or different colors. So, to date, there is no real perspective on the reliability of these scrubber-dryers and their limits in terms of adaptability to the configuration of a particular location . Indeed, the geometry of the premises, the presence of the public or not, the level in the building, etc. are all parameters that become constraints. In these specific cases, the traditional scrubber-dryer remains in good position. Another issue is the cost of this type of scrubber dryer, which is pushing manufacturers to set up maintenance rental contracts rather than transfer contracts in order to smooth out a cost that is obviously higher.
