The use of hydroalcoholic gel and hydroalcoholic solutions began in the workplace about fifteen years ago at the initiative of the hospital environment . Indeed, the fight against nosocomial infections and therefore all hand-borne infections led to highlighting a problem . Namely, the frequency of hand washing to be put in place to reduce these hand-borne infections became either impossible in terms of frequency or material possibility (presence of a water point).
A complementary solution was therefore put in place between hand washing , which is disinfection via a hydroalcoholic solution or gel. The use of hydroalcoholic gel is easily adaptable to all situations, even in the absence of a water point . However, the negative effect was the perception by users that the use of a hydroalcoholic solution could allow them to "do without" hand washing . This idea must be fought because hand washing remains the basis of hygiene.

Hydroalcoholic gel, solution or foam?

Today, we must distinguish between solutions that consist of a gel to be spread on the hands and hydroalcoholic solutions in the form of hydroalcoholic foam. Hydroalcoholic gels and foams are mainly composed of alcohol (ethanol) which play a major role in the disinfection process. It is therefore the concentration of Ethanol in particular that makes the hydroalcoholic gel effective and it is useful to check it... Then several compounds allow the persistence (time during which the solution has an action).
Regular use can cause skin dryness if the solution is too concentrated in alcohol. This is why some laboratories such as Deb Sc Johnson have developed hydroalcoholic solutions in the form of foam . The gains are immediate in terms of consumption but especially in terms of the dose used on users' hands. There is therefore better acceptance.
Deb, now integrated into the SC Johnson group, was the first to offer solutions in terms of foam with various packaging adaptable in hydroalcoholic solution dispensers . Manufacturers such as EXEOL with Exeol Gel or ANIOS with Aniosgel remain references in the field of health.

DLUO of hydroalcoholic gel

A hydroalcoholic solution, like any product, has a Best Before Date . This date is not, as in the food industry, a consumption date . In fact, in the case of a hydroalcoholic gel, it is the concentration of alcohol that decreases over time that gives this indicative date.
After the A flu, quantities of several thousand pallets were destroyed by manufacturers and distributors on this DLUO date . We can only regret this waste because many of these products had characteristics that were still completely consistent in terms of disinfection. Quantities of containers that had not even been opened!!

What is a hydroalcoholic gel?

Hydroalcoholic gel or hydroalcoholic solution exists and has been used for several years in the health sector . Its usefulness is to be able to maintain a level of disinfection where wearing gloves is complex and washing hands and its recurrence is difficult.
A hydroalcoholic gel is mainly composed of alcohol, which gives it its disinfecting properties . It is also this alcohol concentration that will be a determining element for the disinfection spectrum.

Purpose of hydroalcoholic gel

The purpose of a hydroalcoholic gel is therefore to ensure hand disinfection in addition to hand washing but should not replace it under any circumstances. It is therefore necessary to continue to implement hand washing protocols.
Deb has developed a hydroalcoholic foam system that makes it more pleasant and more bearable (in terms of skin tolerance) than a classic hydroalcoholic gel.
This Instant Foam hydroalcoholic foam comes in several formats, including a self-service station that can be placed at the entrance to reception areas.

Why use hand sanitizers in the workplace?

Hands are the main vector for transmitting germs.
Scientists estimate that 80% of infections are transmitted by hands . This means hand-to-hand contact, but also contact with common objects: telephone, elevator buttons, door handles, keyboards, handrails, vending machines of all kinds, etc.
