Selective sorting and legislation
Selective sorting in offices using specific baskets and trash cans is now an obligation. Beyond this obligation, it is the conscience of each and every one which must allow the implementation of selective sorting in companies and communities to make the best use of our waste.
There is a legal obligation for selective sorting in offices in France. According to
article L.541-1-1 of the Environmental Code, companies,
whatever their size and sector of activity , have the obligation to sort the waste they produce and have it collected separately for their valuation.
In offices, this means that it is
necessary to set up an organization to sort the different types of waste: paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, glass, organic waste, etc. For this, it is possible to
provide specific selective sorting bins or to provide sorting spaces at workstations.
It is also important to
raise awareness among employees of the need to sort waste adequately, by providing information on sorting instructions and organizing awareness-raising actions.
Finally, companies also have an obligation to collect sorted waste and have it recycled. To do this, they can call on a service provider specializing in the collection and treatment of waste, favoring
recovery solutions such as recycling or composting. -Decree No. 2016-288 of March 10, 2016: from July 1, 2016,
all state administrations employing more than 20 people will have to sort their office papers at source . The same will apply to all producers and holders of office paper waste (public or private) comprising more than 100 people (July 1, 2016), then 50 people (January 1, 2017) and finally 20 people (January 1, 2018). .
-Decree No. 2016-288 of March 10, 2016:
obligation for companies to better sort their paper, metal, plastic, glass and wood waste in order to promote their reuse and recycling.
They must separate these materials from the rest of their waste , either by sorting at source or by subsequent sorting in an automated center.
