A podotactile panel: why?
It is now mandatory for all public structures to install specific signage to promote the mobility of people with visual impairments. Tactile tiles are safety devices made of studs , designed to help these disabled people detect the presence of a danger, a change in level, an obstacle or any other element creating a disruption in their movements. On Voussert.fr, they are available in 4 colors. The studs, or studs, are 25 millimeters in diameter and 5 millimeters high.
Tactile studs act as an anti-slip strip that is easily spotted by walking on them or placing your cane on them. Designed particularly for outdoor use, the podotactile slab or strip indicates the presence of a pedestrian crossing near roads or in a car park . It is also suitable for ERP (public buildings) for indoor use, generally placed at the edge of stairs to warn the visually impaired of the presence of steps. It is a protection and safety system subject to the law which aims to facilitate accessibility to urban spaces for any visually impaired or blind person.
The advantages of the podotactile panel
This safety equipment is used as a podotactile guidance strip that raises awareness and has the following advantages:
- its installation is easy and quick (thanks to a special glue)
- it warns disabled people of dangers;
- it resists very low temperatures down to -40°C;
- its coating is resistant to the sun's UV rays;
- its installation is ideal indoors and outdoors;
- at Voussert, its rubber construction makes it non-slip;
- its inner face is printed canvas to facilitate long-lasting bonding;
- it has a wear indicator so that it can be changed at the right time.
All podotactile tiles must comply with the standard and meet the Disability Act of February 2005. At Voussert, we offer tiles that comply with the NF P98-351 standard , on accessibility in urban areas, as well as the Cfl-s1 standard, on fire resistance.
How to glue a podotactile tile?
Installing a tactile stud is quick and easy. However, you must be meticulous to ensure the slab is securely held, otherwise this safety feature could become a potential threat.
Before you start installing a strip, you must first thoroughly degrease the inside and the installation surface, which must be suitable for receiving this equipment in terms of flatness and adhesiveness. It is recommended to place the tactile nail 50 centimeters from the obstacle , the level or any change in the traffic lane.
Next, use the ready-to-use two-component polyurethane adhesive, consisting of 5 kg of polyurethane adhesive and 0.7 kg of hardener. This two-component adhesive, made from a polyurethane resin, is suitable for many surfaces.
At a minimum temperature of 5°C, the polymerization time after laying the slab is 24 hours for opening to pedestrian traffic and 48 to 72 hours for opening to heavy traffic. On Voussert.fr, you will find a wide selection of non-slip outdoor tactile mats and indoor tactile mats to facilitate movement for disabled, visually impaired, or blind people.
