Discover our wide range of electric insect killers featuring the latest LED technology. Find our complete guide to insect killers to understand the impacts of switching from fluorescent tubes to LED lamps and the IP ratings of the devices.
European regulations are leading to a shift from fluorescent tube fixtures to LED lamps. This innovative, ultra-efficient technology can increase flywheel attractiveness by up to 15% and reduce costs by up to 75%. Operation remains the same, with the pest being electrified and then collected in a removable tray or drawer. The entire Voussert product range will be transferred to LED models, with the end of marketing of actinic fluorescent tubes having been set for December 31, 2027.

An LED insect killer works by using a combination of ultraviolet (UV) lights and an electrical attraction system to eliminate flying insects. So in practice, we are on the same pattern as a "classic" tube shredder. LED insect killers are equipped with special LED lamps that emit ultraviolet light, which are more environmentally friendly than traditional neon lights. Insects, especially mosquitoes and flies, are attracted to this UV light because they are sensitive to certain wavelengths of light, just as they are to traditional neon lights. Flying insects are naturally attracted to the light source and approach the insect killer. Once the insects are attracted to the LED insect killer, they encounter a charged electrical grid. This is exactly the same mode of operation as tube killers. This grid creates a powerful electric field that electrocutes insects on contact. The grid is usually protected by a safety grille to prevent accidental contact with people. When an insect comes into contact with the electric grid, an electric current passes through it, causing its death. Some insect killers are equipped with a removable collection tray below the grid to collect dead insects. In the food industry, we generally opt for a glue board version which will prevent projections when the insect is electrocuted.
This depends on your device and your manufacturer. Some manufacturers don't have any "replacement" solutions, and apart from stocking up on FLUO neon tubes on your end, tracking will be impossible. Some brands, like BRC, offer a "retrofit" solution for certain devices to integrate UV lamps into your device. On this point, for devices purchased from Voussert, our teams will be able to answer your questions.
In conclusion, LED insect killers are generally more environmentally friendly than traditional devices that use chemicals or insecticides. However, they are not selective in their action and can also attract and eliminate certain beneficial insects.
The shutdown date was initially scheduled for December 31, 2025 , but an exception has been made until December 31, 2027. On this date, no more electric insect control devices incorporating fluorescent neon tubes, as well as fluorescent neon tubes as consumable parts, will be authorized for sale. As a result, many manufacturers, such as Voussert, have decided to switch their entire range to LED strips this year.
