Decree 2006-1386 of November 15, 2006 , relating to the fight against smoking in places of collective use.
Since February 1, 2007 , the smoking ban has been generalized to enclosed and covered places that welcome the public or constitute workplaces: businesses, administrations, schools, health establishments.
Since January 1, 2008 , this ban has extended to so-called "convivial" places: cafes, hotels, restaurants, tobacco bars, casinos and nightclubs.

Reminder of the legal framework for outdoor ashtrays and smoking areas

Decree 2006-1386 of November 15, 2006, relating to the fight against smoking in places of collective use there is now a legal framework concerning the equipment and layout of smoking areas • Since February 1, 2007, the smoking ban has been generalized to closed and covered places which welcome the public or constitute workplaces: companies, administrations, schools, health establishments, offices
• Since January 1, 2008, this ban has extended to so-called “convivial” places: cafes, hotels, restaurants, tobacco bars, casinos and nightclubs.
• Fine: €68 for the offending smoker (then €180 after 45 days)
€135 for the person responsible for the offending place (€375 after 45 days).

Types of outdoor ashtray

Outdoor wall-mounted or free-standing ashtray

The first element is the choice of the type of installation of your ashtray: wall-mounted or on a stand. Standing ashtrays are more suited to places with high traffic and therefore it is the autonomy and the liters of capacity that are sought.
Of course, their other strong point is that they can be moved. Some models also combine two functions: trash can and ashtray (ashes + cigarettes). Wall-mounted ashtrays are less bulky but generally have a lower autonomy unlike the "urban" cylindrical ashtrays, however it is also possible to combine the two functions of trash can and ashtray.
