Why a melamine sponge wears out quickly (and why this is normal)
Melamine is a microscopic abrasive that acts like ultra-fine sandpaper: each rub removes a little of the material. This is the very principle of its effectiveness. A melamine sponge therefore wears out faster than a regular sponge. As one user shared with us in July 2026, "8 out of 10 tear quickly." This is true, and that's why we've chosen to sell it in packs of 10 at €0.24 each: rather than paying €1.44 for a Vileda sponge that's supposed to last, you get 10 for €2.49, and you can replace them without hesitation as soon as they wear out. A tip highly recommended by our customers: cut each sponge into 3 pieces before use. This triples the lifespan of the pack, for a real cost of just €0.08 per equivalent sponge.
