Daily cleaning should be done with a professional vacuum cleaner, preferably one with HEPA H13 filtration . Why? Simply because the function of this type of mat is to trap dust and germs to prevent them from being released into the atmosphere. The fiber captures this dust, and vacuuming it up with a model that would massively release it back into the atmosphere would make no sense... This daily maintenance should be supplemented either by machine washing the carpet at 30°C if it can withstand it or by deep cleaning with a carpet injector extractor .
A professional dust-trapping mat is distinguished by its reinforced structure, high-quality materials, and advanced technical design. It offers superior absorption capacity, increased resistance to heavy traffic, and exceptional durability, capable of trapping up to 95% of dirt and moisture from the very first use.
For optimal effectiveness, a dust-trapping mat should allow for at least three steps. Experts recommend a length of approximately 2 meters for a primary mat, and up to 6 meters for complete protection. It is preferable to opt for two additional mats rather than one oversized one. How to choose between a scraper mat and an absorbent mat? The choice depends on the environment. A scraper mat, with its rough surface, is ideal for outdoor entrances to remove large debris. An absorbent mat, made of dense fibers, is better suited for indoor use to trap moisture and fine particles. For maximum effectiveness, some manufacturers offer mats that combine both technologies.
In public buildings, the mat must not create a step higher than 2 cm to facilitate wheelchair access. The spacing between the profiles must not exceed 2 cm. The mat must withstand a load of at least 350 kg per support point. Regarding fire resistance, it is recommended to choose mats classified Bfl-s1 or Cfl-s1 according to standard EN 13501-1. How to extend the lifespan of a dust-control mat? To maximize the lifespan of your rug, regular maintenance is essential. Vacuum daily to remove 90% of particles before they become embedded. Rotate the rug regularly to even out wear. For stubborn stains, use only products recommended by the manufacturer. Finally, move the rug slightly from time to time to prevent localized wear in high-traffic areas.

Appropriate and regular maintenance allows for: • to extend the lifespan of the carpet by reducing the abrasion caused by dust on the fibers • to make the mat more effective by preventing dust and water from being re-transported into the building • to protect the exterior appearance of the carpet and to preserve the image of the building. The BSI* states: "It is of vital importance, in order to obtain satisfactory performance from any floor covering system, that regular cleaning be carried out."
