Difference between pool chemicals chlorine or chlorine treatment

Summary

Pool water is a prime environment for the growth of microorganisms that can pose a risk to swimming. Furthermore, as they grow, they can make the water cloudy and the walls slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.

Traditional chlorine process

Chlorine-based pool treatment product : Traditional and economical disinfection process. Chlorine tablets are placed in the skimmer or in the return flow meter. These pool chlorine tablets slowly decompose in the pool water, generating hypochlorous acid. In this treatment, the chlorine level in the pool must be checked daily with chlorine / pH / Bromine testers. In the event of a significant chlorination defect, you can quickly rectify it by using shock chlorine, which comes in powder form and is added directly to the pool water, thus quickly raising the chlorine level. This is generally done at the beginning of the season, after intensive pool use or in the event of intense heat and storms. Using a chlorine stabilizer will help limit this loss. Be careful not to add too much chlorine stabilizer, as this will "overstabilize" your pool, which is not the desired objective.

Concentrated bleach or pool chlorine? What are the differences?

It would be a quick thought to ask yourself that, in the end, why buy a specific pool chlorine product rather than bleach directly? Quite simply because the formulation of a specific pool product contains a chlorine stabilizer that allows for extended storage, whereas concentrated bleach can quickly lose concentration. It also contains a limescale stabilizer with anti-limescale and anti-corrosion agents for extended storage to prevent scaling of the pipes and suction strainers of the dispenser.
In addition, you should pay attention to the compatibility of the product if you are equipped with a diatomaceous earth filter.

Chlorine concentration 48° or 36° CHL?

There are two types of chlorine concentration in swimming pool products.
A formulation reserved for domestic use with a concentration of 36°CHL corresponding to 9.6% active chlorine and a formulation exclusively reserved for professional use with a concentration of 48°CHL corresponding to 12.6% active chlorine.
Of course there is a price difference between these two formulas and generally you can even find even lower concentrations on the market...It is therefore essential to know what you are talking about and above all compare identical concentrations.
Since 48°CHL chlorine is reserved for professional use (swimming pools, communities, campsites, hotels, spas, etc.), you will not find it on sale to the general public.

Automatic chlorine and pH dosing

Chlorine can also be in the form of liquid chlorine . The chlorine is then injected by a peristaltic pump type dosing pump, one for the chlorine and another for adjusting the pH. In this case , liquid pH minus is used in the form of a 25 or 30 liter container intended to be placed under the Chlore pH dosing device.

Probes placed at the circulation level allow the chlorine and pH concentrations to be measured.
In this case, manually checking the chlorine and pH levels is a priori unnecessary if your dosing system and especially your probes are working properly. This is often the case, but to avoid any unpleasant surprises (a machine is just a machine), a periodic check will allow you to ensure the proper functioning of the chlorine pH dosing system and the associated probes.

Salt electrolysis

Salt electrolysis pool product : This process generates sodium hypochlorite, rich in active chlorine, by simple electrolysis of pool water, which will be slightly salty. The device must work on the discharge pipe as close as possible to the pool in the technical room to avoid damaging other equipment. It is a powerful disinfectant.

Active oxygen and bromine

Active oxygen-based pool product : active oxygen is odorless, in liquid or solid form, it is disinfectant and algaecide. It makes the water soft and pleasant.

Bromine-based pool product : This halogen, a natural disinfectant, is extracted from saline sources. Bromine is remarkably effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and for the oxidation of impurities present in pool water. Bromine is effective thanks to its highly effective bactericidal power and its ability to regenerate itself. This principle, which requires a dosing device, forms disinfectant hypobromous acid upon contact with water. Bromine is gentle on the skin and eyes, and prevents unpleasant odors. Bromine remains effective at high temperatures.
