Reminder of the Egalim Law

Promulgation of Law No. 2015-992 of August 17, 2015 provided for the imminent end of the provision of cups, glasses and disposable kitchen plates for the plastic table, except those compostable in domestic composting and constituted, for all or part of biosourced material (C. envir., art L. 541-10-5).

Article 28 of 2018 complements the EGAlim law:
This date is indeed the date chopper on the prohibition of the provision of plastic disposable crockery (cups, cutlery, glasses, plates ..) as we know it today.
=> Prohibition of use of bottled water by 1 January 2020

=> Prohibition of availability of straws, cutlery, steaks, disposable glass lids, meal trays, ice cream jars, salad bowls, cans and mixing sticks for drinks at the latest on 1 January 2020 plastic
=> Prohibition no later than January 1, 2025, food containers for cooking, heating and plastic service in the restoration of schools, universities and children under 6 years of age (January 1, 2028 for CT <2,000 inhabitants)
Measures concerning the fight against food waste:
=> Art 62: obligation of the "doggy bag" in commercial catering from 1 July 2021;

Alternatives in biodegradable disposable crockery

Certainly there are alternatives in terms of material such as sugar cane fiber, wood, PLA- based starch based on Mais.
Nevertheless to date the prices of these products remain on average much higher than those in plastics.
Thus, there will be a cost problem for users but also a budget for communities or professionals including in their service this type of service.
One thinks in particular of the sale to take away.
We must also distinguish the concepts of biodegradable, compostable or recyclable that do not cover the same characteristics in terms of waste and / or recycling.
The concept of strict biodegradable includes the ability to decompose without effects on the natural environment.
The notion of compostable covers materials that under the effect of micro-organisms, moisture or heat will degrade naturally as a plant for example to become humus.
Attendjon there are two standard OK compost. The "OK compost HOME" and the "Ok compost INDUSTRIAL EN13432"
The notion of recyclable will cover the products that can be put back into the raw material chain in the production cycle after being recycled as long as it has been recovered, sorted, etc.
