Carpet and textile maintenance

How to properly clean carpets and textiles?

The cleaning of a carpet or a textile must take into account several parameters including the type of support, the degree of soiling and the surface to be treated.
On a carpet, there are 3 main maintenance and renovation methods which can sometimes be complementary and not in opposition.

Injector extractor method

The most common method in carpet cleaning is that of injection extraction. This method consists in using a specific machine which will have the function of "injecting" a solution of water and detergent into the carpet in order to "wash" it and simultaneously to vacuum (extraction) as would a wet vacuum cleaner. .
The material to be used is an extractor injector which exists in different sizes and powers. This type of equipment exists for semi-professional use with in particular the Numatic Georges which will meet multiple uses. This method has the advantage of easy and quick implementation without necessarily having to have any special training. It can just prove to be physically restrictive on large areas .
Another point is the return to circulation of the carpet or rugs which is directly dependent on the thickness of the carpet which determines the drying time . In order to shorten this drying time, the use of a professional carpet dryer blower speeds up drying. Another point is that this method does not generate any mechanical cleaning action and it may be useful to complete this cleaning alternately with a mechanized method. The product used is a non-foaming injection extraction shampoo .

Monobrush carpet cleaning

The use of a low speed monobrush is the traditional and historical method used by professionals. Unlike injection extraction, the use of a single- disc machine requires prior user training and a "technique" for handling the machine. Without this prior training, the user risks damaging the equipment and the support as well as its physical integrity.
Carpet cleaning with a single-disc machine can be done in two ways:
-> In so- called "wet" carpet shampoo: in this case we use a wet shampoo carpet brush and a carpet shampoo product which will be sprayed on the surface. At the end the surface is therefore "wet" and will have to be vacuumed with a wet vacuum cleaner for example.
-> As a "dry foam" carpet shampoo : in this case, a dry shampoo carpet brush is used and the monobrush must be fitted with a " foam compressor " which will generate this so-called dry foam. Few manufacturers have mastered this method. Taski, who was a pioneer in the field, remains the benchmark today.

Dry carpet cleaning powder

Last method which is rather used in regular maintenance is that of the vacuum brush with cleaning powder. This method is often used in the hotel industry, the tertiary sector where the traffic is not very messy. It allows a simple, fast and regular installation with an opening to immediate traffic.

Which carpet maintenance method should I choose?

As you will have noticed, no single method can be sufficient on its own, and it is up to the professional to determine with his client an alternation schedule . In fact, it will then be necessary to distinguish between what comes under " repair " and what comes under daily maintenance . Each method has different implementation characteristics but also with a different cleaning spectrum ... but complementary ! In any case, never forget to make preliminary tests on your supports!
